Kuroko Cullinator

Kuroko Cullinator

Fitted with 2-6 selection suction points with 4-meter long pipes and 20litre receptacle. Control valve included. Custom made to order. Specify number of pipes.

The act of removing the black fry is called Kuroko (黒子) literally "the little black one's"

The process is called Kuroko Senbetsu for "the selection of the little black fry"

This custom device works on the same principle employing by the Japanese koi farmers for many years. To save on a vacuum pump, we use an ordinary domestic vacuum cleaner.

We dubbed it the Kuroko Cullinator for want of a better word.

Kuroko is done 3-4 days after hatching Showa or Utsuri koi to remove the high number of orange fry that will never end up to be anything. (It is also bad practice to let these survive and breed with them. You might end up with quite an acceptable Kohaku, but if you or someone else breeds with this offspring you risk of “contaminating” all future generations with these genes)

Good idea to add 5ml/10liter bucket for a minute of KoiNet Methylene Blue before transferring to the grow out pond.
